X Factor Malta will return for a second season

The first season of the show will be ending on Saturday

It has been announced today on the X Factor Malta Facebook page that the global talent show will be returning to Maltese screens for a second season. Entries are already being accepted to take part in the next season!

As the first season of the X Factor Malta comes to close with just two shows remaining – the third live show which will take place tonight and the final which will take place on Saturday (26th January) – preparations have today begun for the second season of the show.

The second season will begin in late 2019/early 2020, however, it is currently unknown whether or not Malta’s Eurovision participant for the 2020 contest will be selected through the show, even though the rules do state that you need be currently 15 years of age or over to enter, which would mean that even the youngest of entries would be 16 by the time of the contest.

Entries now being taken via WhatsApp!

Any interested singers can register their interest for the X Factor Malta by sending a WhatsApp message to the official X Factor Malta number – 99202019 – with their full name, age and email address.

Those who are interested must also attach a clip, with a maximum length of 1 minute, of them singing and they will receive a message back from the X Factor Malta production team as soon as possible.

Interested participants must be at least 15 years old.

Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest

Malta debuted at the contest in 1971, with the song “Marija I-Malitja” performed by Joe Grech which finished in last place. Before 1991, they only appeared in the contest two more times. Since then, the country has finished second twice but has never managed to win the contest.

In recent years, Malta has failed to qualify for the final on three occasions – in 2015, 2017 and 2018. Ira Losco did however manage to take the country to the final in 2016 where she finished in 12th place.

In 2018, Christabelle represented the country with the song “Taboo”, but failed to reach the final after having finished in 13th place in the second semi-final.

Are you happy that X Factor Malta will be back for a second season? Do you hope that it will be used as the selection mechanism for Eurovision 2020? Will you be entering the second season of the show?
