Today, like yesterday we also have a Eurovision winner. Along with two other performers, one was the debut act for her country; Masha Katz.
Sigrún Eva Ármannsdóttir, 51
Iceland selected the group Heart 2 Heart to perfrom on their behalf in 1992. Therefore Sigrún and her band members went on stage in Malmö, Sweden. The song is called “Nei eða Já” and it got 70 points at the end of the show. It reached the 7th place out of 23 acts.
In 1994 Sigrún Eva took part in Söngvakeppnin, the Icelandic national selection, and her song won it. However RUV decide to change the song and change the singer of the song “Nætur”. And her college from Heart 2 Heart, Sigga Beinteinns, was selected to perform it instead of her.
Masha Katz, 46
Masha was selected to be the debut act of Russia at Eurovision in 1994. Therefore she performed the song “Vyechniy stranik” in Dublin. Masha Katz gave a powerful performance and wore a rather interesting dress. Russia had a rather good place at the contest, given it was their first time. The song got 70 points, that is the song placed in 9th place.
Stala, 44 (Kita, Sampsa Astala)
Finland decided to do Eurovision with different approch in 2006, when they selected their entry for Eurovision. Because they chose this full costumed rock band to perform. Stala, then called Kita, was the drummer of the band Lordi. Since they were chosen, they performed their song “Hard Rock Hallelujah” in Athens, Greece.
This selection did the trick, because their entry won the semifinal as well as winning the final. That was the first time in Eurovision history, that an entry had won both!
Stala tried again for Eurovision in 2011, when he went with his new band Stala & So. There they reached the final with the song “Pamela“. However as you might know, they lost to Paradise Oskar
