Earlier this week, the BBC announced the six acts that will be taking part in a re-formatted version of Eurovision: You Decide next month. We also got to hear the songs, alongside biographies for each of the acts competing for the British ticket to Tel Aviv.
At Wednesday’s Eurovision: You Decide press event, ESCXTRA’s Oliver Lewis spoke to Kat and Blythe from MAID about their entry “Freaks”. The trio formed after meeting in drama school and working in the West End together. In this interview, they discuss the dark nature of their version of the song, musical theatre and tips from Jade Ewan!
The United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019
MAID will be battling Jordan Clarke (also singing “Freaks”) at the final of Eurovision: You Decide 2019, which will take place on February 8th. Eurovision 2015 winner Måns Zelmerlöw and Mel Giedroyc will return as hosts.
In this new format, there are three songs, each sang by two acts, who will ‘battle’ head-to-head in order to advance to the final stage. In this final stage, an expert jury and televote will select the UK’s Eurovision entrant!
