Eight remain in Georgian Idol as Mariam Kakhelishvili is among eliminated acts in Queen week

Georgia’s first ever season of Georgian Idol is going swiftly. After just four episodes, only eight acts currently remain in competition to represent Georgia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. Sadly, Junior Eurovision star Mariam Kakhelishvili was elimated.

Georgia’s very own Queen

The first live show saw ten acts taking to the stage with their favourite songs by legendary band Queen. Almost all of their world hits featured in the show in all sorts of styles and versions.

Beso Nemsadze took on “Fat Bottomed Girls”, but sadly saw himself being eliminated from the show. It was clear that the theme was not his usual style or genre and his adaptation couldn’t quite convince. The same went for 2010 Junior Eurovision entrant Mariam Kakhelishvili. Now 23 years old, the singer had her hopes on representing her country once more. Suffering from timing issues, her version of “I Want To Break Free” cost her a place in next week’s show.

One of the youngest acts on the show received the best reaction online. Sixteen year old Tamar Lachkepiani delivered with her rendition of “Radio Gaga”. She is the least famous act taking part, but is slowly establishing herself as a candidate for victory.

The eight remaining acts

On the first ever Georgian Idol, eight acts now remain. They will be battling it out again next week. The jury will again consist of four music experts. Natia Todua is a Georgian singer who won The Voice of Germany and subsequently took part in last year’s German national final. She is joined by Stephane Mghebrishvili, who nearly went to Eurovision in 2009, with his “We Don’t Wanna Put In” by him and 3G. The final two jury members are Tinatin Berdzenishvili, GPB’s Media Director, and Zaza Shengalia, head of Bravo Records.

Below you can find a list of all eight remaining entrants, including the song they sang last Saturday. Interestingly, among these is Oto Nemsadze who previously won Geostar in Georgia. Geostar was the first show in Georgia to use the Idol franchise. For 2019, the show has been brought back to life with a new identity.

  • Ikako Aleksidze – Under Pressure
  • Liza Kalandadze – Who Wants To Live Forever
  • Dima Kobeshavidze – Love Of My Life
  • Tamar Lechkapiani – Radio Gaga
  • Oto Nemsadze – We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions
  • Giorgi Nakashidze – The Show Must Go On
  • Giorgi Pruidze – Somebody To Love
  • Nini Tsnobiladze – These Are The Days Of Our Lives

The next episode of Georgian Idol will take place on Saturday, 19:00 CET. The winner of the series will represent Georgia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv. Have you found your favourite yet?
