Paenda revealed as Austria’s hope for the Eurovision Song Contest 2019

Austria have revealed their candidate for Tel Aviv. In Eberhard Forcher’s morning show on Hit Radio Ö3, Paenda was announced as their representative. The 31-year-old singer will now go on to represent her country in Israel.

“I look like a panda”

Paenda is a relatively unknown name in the Austrian music scene. The Styrian singer does have a few minor hits to her name, but fits the picture ORF look for quite well.

When Forcher asked Paenda about her stage name, the singer explained that it has something to do with her looks…

Whenever I wake up in the morning, I just look like a panda around my eyes!

The singer is also known for her somewhat remarkable blue/grey hair. She also made a joke about that during the announcement, so this girl has got a lot of humour in herself.

Describing the music Paenda makes is not always the easiest task. She herself describes it as EDM with edges: DJ mixing, synths, bass – it’s all there in her music. We can also hear that in her latest EP Evolution. One of her most recent singles is “Paper-Thin”, which you can find at the bottom of this article.

Austria’s search for Paenda

Since returning to the contest in 2011, Austria have chosen different paths of selecting their entry. However, the past three years have all been about internal selections. Last year, Cesár Sampson went on to finish in a wonderful third spot for the Austrians with “Nobody But You”.

This year, the search for Paenda took a while, but paid off. The song will be revealed later next month. ORF did however reveal that Paenda will sing “Limits” in Tel Aviv.
