Earlier tonight, it was announced that Saara Aalto will be skating to Sandie Shaw’s ‘Puppet on a String’ – the UK’s winning entry from 1967 – on this week’s Dancing on Ice. Notably, this was the UK’s first winning Eurovision entry.
Saara skating her way through the competition
Now in the fifth week of this year’s competition, Saara is going from strength to strength. Saara managed to start the competition scoring 20.0 in the first week, up to 27.0 in the fourth week of the competition!
In a Dancing on Ice first, Saara sang and skated to the Disney song ‘Let It Go’ from the motion picture ‘Frozen’ in week three. This gave her the third-highest score from the judges that week and marked her most memorable performance so far.
Unfortunately, the week after this spectacular performance, Saara found herself in the ‘skate-off’ with Grease star Didi Conn. Thankfully, all four of the judges opted to save Saara and Hamish, thus putting them through to the fifth week of the competition.
New Single and New Tour Coming Soon!
On top of participating in this year’s Dancing on Ice, Saara is also gearing up for the UK release of her new single ‘Dance Like Nobody’s Watching’, from her 2018 debut album ‘Wild Wild Wonderland‘.
On top of the release of her new single, she announced on a recent interview with Smooth Radio that she will go on the road once again! ‘An Evening with Saara Aalto’ is due to take place after Dancing on Ice filming wraps. She teased that she will be performing in the UK, Finland and elsewhere across Europe.
Saara Aalto at the Eurovision Song Contest
After numerous attempts at representing Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest, Saara finally had her wish granted when YLE internally selected her to represent Finland in Lisbon in 2018.
After performing three songs at UMK: Saara Aalto, the jury and the public selected ‘Monsters’ as Saara’s entry. She placed 10th in her Semi-Final, thus bringing the country back to the Final after three years of non-qualification. She placed 25th overall in the competition.
