New Music Friday – this week with Netta, Helena Paparizou, Eleni Foureira and more!

Ten of the best new songs from Eurovision artists!

Another week comes to an end and that means it’s New Music Friday! So it’s time to share the best new releases from the Eurovision world. Over the following pages is everything you need to know for your weekend playlists!

Netta – ‘I Love My Nails’

Never afraid to speak her mind, Eurovision 2018 winner Netta returns to New Music Friday. This week she delivers an important message. Not just to say she loves her nails, but to give all of us the confidence to choose themselves. Although the song is layered with castanet beats, we see a softer side to Netta.

Loving your nails is about loving yourself. Painting and building my nails is self-care for me. It’s my colour therapy. It helped me this year with rejection and put the colour back in my life. I paint a picture of myself on them. I put my heart on my sleeve, they say, so I put mine on my nails.

When I was young, I used to go with my mother to the beauty salon. Beauticians are the best therapists, if you didn’t know. The process of building her nails was actually about building herself once again every week. This ritual became her medicine for her, and I guess it runs in the family. Show up for you. Love your nails. Love yourself.

Helena Paparizou (Antique) – ‘Ti Ti’

After a brief reunion concert in 2019, Helena Paparizou and Nikos Nikos Panagiotidis, otherwise known as Antique, have officially made a New Music Friday comeback. Together the duo represented Greece in 2001 with ‘Die For You‘. Their 3rd place was at the time, Greece’s best result in the contest. Of course Helena, would later go on to take Greece’s first victory in 2005 with ‘My Number One‘. Now they reunite after 19-years on 90s Greek classic, ‘Ti Ti’ by Giorgos Alkaios. Here they have given the song fresh life, with a more modern production. Soon the pair will return to their native Swedish homeland for a Summer tour.

Evangelia, Eleni Foureira – ‘Perder Control’

Last year Evangelia was the talk of the Mediterranean. As heavy rumours swirled that both Greece and Cyprus wanted her to represent them at the contest. This only increased once Evangelia teamed up with Eurovision fan favourite and 2018 runner-up, Eleni Foureira for the Greek version of hit song ‘Fotiá‘. Of course both nations went in different directions, but that has not stopped Evangelia returning to Eurovision circles. Now the Greek-American singer once again joins forces with Eleni, this time on the Spanish version of ‘Fotiá’. Together they bring a stronger, Latin flair to the song in ‘Perder Control’. Meanwhile Eleni brings all the experience of her own past Spanish discography.

Twin Melody, Emma Muscat – ‘CIAO’

Another Eurovision act showing a flair for Spanish, is Malta’s 2022 representative, Emma Muscat. This week she teams up with twin sisters Paula and Aitana, otherwise known as Twin Melody. From the Basque region, the girls have become viral sensations on television and through music, with their catchy songs and twin energy. In ‘CIAO’ we see more of the fun, upbeat side of Emma that is typical of the music she releases away from the contest. As she fits right in with the sisters and this sassy bop denouncing men who don’t know the basics of dating.
