Title of Sanremo 2019 entry: “Un po’ come la vita” (A bit like life)
Born in Venice in 1948, Patty Pravo (stage name of Nicoletta Strambelli) has been active in music since 1966. Over the years, she published 29 albums. After publishing her first few singles, she rose to success in 1968 when her song “Bambola” became an international hit. The same year, she released her first album with the second coming in 1969. In 1970, she made her Sanremo debut together with Little Tony and “La spada nel cuore“. After her success with “Pazza Idea” she began to sing in English, German and French to reach international markets. Before the end of the 1970s she published 5 more albums, including collaborations with many established artists.After a career break dictated by personal reasons, she struggled to find success again. Together with Caterina Caselli she returned to Sanremo in 1984, placing 10th and published a new album. Her next participation to Sanremo in 1987 came with accusations of plagiarism and her next album delayed. In 1994, she published an album in Chinese language and returned to Sanremo in 1995, coming last. She made 5 more appearances at the festival with 2 albums released afterwards receiving gold certification. Patty has also been a writer and talent show judge and several of her pieces were included in movies soundtracks. Overall, throughout her career she managed to sell more than 110 million records.
Briga (stage name of Mattia Bellgrandi) was born in Rome in 1989 and grew up between the Italian capital, Paris, Denmark and Spain. This will be his Sanremo debut. He began his career in 2010 when he self-produced the EP “Anamnesi” and signed his first label contract in 2011. He published a mix tape in 2011 and an album titled “Alcune sere” in 2012. In 2014, he participated in the talent show Amici di Maria De Filippi where he finished runner-up. Winning prizes during his participation, his album “Never again” became platinum certified. He then published two more albums and several well-performing singles. Besides, he also published two books and starred in a movie.

Title of Sanremo 2019 entry: “Abbi cura di me” (Take care of me)
Born in Rome in 1977, Simone Cristicchi returns to Sanremo for the 5th time, having won the show in 2007. He made his first steps in music in 1994 and signed his first record label deal in 2000. He won several competitions but it wasn’t until 2005 that his break through came. In fact, that year his song “Vorrei cantare come Biagio” became a hit and he published his first album “Fabbricante di Sogni”. He debuted at Sanremo in 2006 with “Bella gente” finishing 2nd in the newcomers categiry. The following year, he returned to Sanremo with “Ti regalerò una rosa” which earned him first place. Afterwards, he published the album “Dall’altra parte del cancello”. Later, he published a book an dremained active with live concerts. He again appeared at Sanremo in 2010 placing 6th and 2013 coming 11th. His music is often used to raise awareness about sensitive topics such as mental health and imprisoned youth. Besides music, Cristichhi has also been involved in theater productions.
