Title of Sanremo 2019 entry: “Soldi” (money)

Mahmood, stage name of Alessandro Mahmoud, was born in Milan in 1992 from an Italian mother and Egyptian father. He started taking music, guitar and piano lessons at the age of 12 and took part to various music competitions. In 2012 he took part to X Factor and the following year he released the single “Fallin’ rain”. His first experience at Sanremo came in 2016, when he placed 4th in the Giovani category with his song “Dimentica”. He collaborated with various artists, including Michele Bravi and rapper Fabri Fibra and also released new singles and an EP in the past year. In late 2018, he participate in Sanremo Giovani, being one of the two winners earning the right to participate in the 2019 edition of the Festival. Mahmood has also written songs for the latest Marco Mengoni’s album.

Title of Sanremo 2019 entry: “Dov’è l’Italia” (where is Italy?)

Francesco Motta was born in Livorno in 1986 and has been active in music since 2006. 2019 will be his first time at Sanremo. His career started when he founded the band Criminal Jokers, for which he was the singer and drummer. Together with them he released the album  in English “This Was Supposed to be the Future” in 2010 and and Italian one “Bestie” in 2012. A talented multi-instrumentalist, he accompanied various groups in their concerts and since 2013 has also been active in producing soundtracks for movies and documentaries, having studied at a cinematography school in Rome. He published his first solo album in 2016, called “La fine dei vent’anni” and in the same year toured around Italy and won the PIMI Special 2016. In 2018 he published two singles including “La nostra ultima canzone”, a track often played in radios.
