Israel Calling ESCXTRA: Day 4 diary – the Israel Calling 2022 show!

Between April 4th and April 8th, Ryan and Dominik from ESCXTRA.com were honoured to be invited to Israel Calling 2022. In this article, we continue our diary series of the week’s events! Here’s Ryan’s experience of day 4!

The press conference

It’s April 7th and it’s the big day, the day of the Israel Calling 2022 concert at the 10,000-capacity Menora Mivtachim arena. In the morning, all of the artists united for a press conference at the hotel. Afterwards, we got the chance to meet the wonderful Tali Eshkoli, executive producer of the event who, alongside the rest of the Israel Calling team, we give a massive thank you to for the invite to this fantastic experience.

Backstage at the arena

We were then given the privilege to travel to the arena on the first shuttle bus so we could spend the afternoon watching the soundchecks and recording interviews with several of this year’s participating artists. On entering the arena for the first time, I thought I was entering a Eurovision arena! The stage was massive with massive LED screens and many lights and cameras to make each performance unique. Ireland’s Brooke was first to soundcheck on stage and certainly got the party started.

Team ESCXTRA spent the afternoon recording interviews with several of this year’s artists which you will be able to watch on ESCXTRA’s YouTube channel in the coming days. Very busy schedules meant we didn’t have time to interview everyone but you can look forward to interviews with the following:

  • Andrea (North Macedonia)
  • Emmelie de Forest (Eurovision 2013 winner)
  • Konstrakta (Serbia)
  • Mia Dimšić (Croatia)
  • Monika Liu (Lithuania)
  • Ochman (Poland)
  • Sheldon Riley (Australia)
  • Stefan (Estonia)
  • We Are Domi (Czech Republic) – Recorded the previous night at the Museum for Jewish People

It’s show time!

Once the slightly delayed soundchecks were over, it was time for the show and what a show it was! We were lucky enough to have our own table in the green room alongside the rest of the artists and delegations to witness this fantastic spectacle. It really was like being at Eurovision itself! Gali Atari closing the show with “Hallelujah” was the perfect way to close a fantastic week at Israel Calling.

After the show, many artists headed straight to the airport to catch their flight to Amsterdam for Eurovision in Concert but luckily for me, my flight wasn’t until Friday afternoon so I was able to have a good night’s sleep.

Once again, we thank everyone at Israel Calling for organising such a great week for us press, the artists and delegations and we can’t wait to come back to Israel again!
