Lithuania: Monika Marija officially pulls “Criminal” out, Alen Chicco to replace

And she is paying a fine for it

As previously reported, Monika Marija has pulled her second song “Criminal” from the Eurovizija 2019 final. This means Alen Chicco gets the last spot in the final.

The drama so far

Despite initially entering only “Criminal” to Eurovizijos Atranka, Monika Marija later decided to enter a second entry – “Light On” – to the selection. The song already did better in the preliminary heats than “Criminal”, by topping the televote and the jury vote.

On the first semifinal, on February 9th, “Light On” again got the top points from the jury and the public and qualified to the final. After this, Monika Marija posted a video on her social medias asking the jury and Lithuanian public not to vote for her on the second semifinal, as she wanted to compete in the final with only one song. This is probably so the votes for her don’t get split between the two songs.

However, last Saturday on the second semifinal, the jury ranked “Criminal” second and it received over 1500 televotes and therefore qualified to the final. Yesterday it was already reported that Monika Marija would pull her second song out and pay a fine for it, but it was today officially confirmed by the Lithuanian broadcaster LRT.

Alen Chicco’s second chance

This means Alen Chicco, who finished fifth on the second semifinal, has been given the eighth spot in the final.

This Saturday, these eight songs will compete in the final of Eurovizija 2019 to become Lithuania’s representative in Eurovision Song Contest 2019.
