France confirm Eurovision 2023 participation

The Big 5 nation will be back after their 24th place finish in Turin

France Télévisions has confirmed that France will participate in the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest, despite scoring their worst result since 2015 at the contest in Turin. Alvan & Ahez represented France at this year’s contest with “Fulenn”, finishing in 24th place with 17 points.

C’est vous qui décidez to return?

The French broadcaster confirmed their return to the contest to ESCToday, joining other countries who had already confirmed their participation in next year’s contest. The selection method that will be used to select the French entry has not yet been confirmed. However, it is expected that France will use a national final to select their entry again.

Since 2021, France has selected their Eurovision entry via “Eurovision France, c’est vous qui décidez” with Barbara Pravi emerging as the first winner. Her entry, “Voilà”, brought France their best result in the contest since Amina in 1991, finishing as runner-up with 499 points.

As a member of the Big Five, France automatically qualified for the final in Turin where they finished in 24th place with 17 points. The French entry scored 9 points from the juries and a further 8 points from the televote. France finished 11 points ahead of last-placed Germany, who scored six points.
