After another edition of EMA FREŠ and two Semi-Finals, Slovenia is ready to select their entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin, Italy. The Slovenian national broadcaster, RTVSLO has released the running order for the final of EMA 2022 taking place this Saturday, February 19.
EMA 2022 – Grand Final
Since last November, RTSVLO the national Slovenian broadcaster has produced another marathon selection of EMA FREŠ and EMA shows. Now only a dozen remain as the national selection for Eurovision 2022 reaches its Grand Final. Below is the running order for EMA 2022:

- Manouche – ‘Si sama?’
- Leya Leanne – ‘Naked’
- BQL – ‘Maj’
- Gušti ft. Leyre – ‘Nova romantika’
- July Jones – ‘Girls Can Do Anything’
- David Amaro – ‘Še vedno si lepa’
- LPS – ‘Disko’
- Hauptman – ‘Sledim’
- Luma – ‘All In’
- Batista Cadillac – ‘Mim pravil’
The Grand Final of EMA 2022 will take place on February 19, (7:20pm GMT, 8:20pm CET, 9:20pm EET and 6:20am AEDT). Melani Mekicar and Bojan Cvjetićanin will host the show. The winner will be decided by a combination of 50% jury voting and 50% public voting. Among the jury are musicians, composers, producers, people with backgrounds in radio and television, as well as Eurovision fan club – OGAE Slovenia. Viewers can watch the show live on TV SLO 1, Val 202, Radio Maribor, Radio Koper and online at rtvslo.si.
Slovenia in the Eurovision Song Contest
Overall Slovenia has competed 27 times as an independent nation. Previously, they have competed as Yugoslavia alongside: Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. As Yugoslavia, only four of the 27 entries were from Slovenia.
Slovenia officially debuted in 1993, represented by 1X Band who sang, ‘Tih deževen dan’, placing 22nd with 9 points. Slovenia’s best ever finish is seventh place, which they have achieved twice. Firstly in 1995, with Darja Švajger and ‘Prisluhni mi’. Likewise the second came in 2001, with Nuša Derenda and ‘Energy’.
After winning EMA 2020, Ana Soklič was set to represent Slovenia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 with, ‘Voda’. The EBU later announced the cancellation of the contest due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore the Slovenian broadcaster, RTVSLO stood by their artist and internally selected Ana for 2021.
Later that year the broadcaster confirmed the return of EMA 2021, albeit as a song selection for Ana Soklič’s entry for Rotterdam. However, due to the pandemic, the show became a song presentation show for ‘Amen‘, her 2021 entry. ‘Amen’ was selected from 191 songs in total. The song was co-written by Charlie Mason, who previously worked with the likes of Miley Cyrus and Conchita.
During the Rotterdam contest, she finished 13th in the first Semi-Final with 44 points. Thus it was Slovenia’s first non-qualification since 2017.
