Tel Aviv 2019

Unser Lied für Israel: 2.99 million watched the show. Lowest since 2012!

The numbers are in...

Yesterday Germany decided their representive for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest 2019. Seven acts had the chance and in the end S!sters won the competition and will fly to Tel Aviv. But how many watched the show? How many votes were made compared to last year? Here are the numbers:

Less than 3 million people watched the show

Last year, “Unser Lied für Lissabon”, still achieved 3.17 million viewers. Even though Michael had big success for Germany afterward in Portugal, the ratings are down this year. This year a total of 2.99 million people watched the German national final. This is a market share of 9.6%. A reason for that might be, that this year the shows was aired on a Friday and not on a Thursday. The market share was slightly higher last year with 9.9%.

Ratings for the German national final in the past years:

2013: «Unser Song für Malmö»: 3,24 Mio. (10,4%)
2014: «Unser Song für Dänemark»: 3,95 Mio. (13,3%)
2015: «Unser Song für Österreich»: 3,20 Mio. (10,3%)
2016: «Unser Lied für Stockholm»: 4,47 Mio. (13,8%)
2017: «Unser Song» (Kiew): 3,14 Mio. (10,8%)
2018: «Unser Lied für Lissabon»: 3,17 Mio. (9,9%)

Less televotes compared to last year

Not just the viewers went down compared to last year, also the votes went down by about 12.4%. This year a total of 374.313 were made (255.837 calls, 118.476 texts). When Michael Schulte won last year, the total votes were 427.519.

Thomas Schreiber, ARD-coordinator of entertainment and director of the NDR program area fiction & entertainment: “Congratulations to S!sters – we look forward to the journey through very exciting months with you! A very warm thanks to Aly Ryan, BB Thomaz, Gregor Hägele , Lilly among clouds, Linus Bruhn and Makeda for the lovely work that you have been engaging and preparing for, since fall – your performances have been great and a big thank you to the whole team that made the show possible and to Barbara Schöneberger and Linda Zervakis – pure female power, of which we can use more!”

Hey, I'm Dominik from Germany. Watched my first Eurovision in 2003 and I was in love right away! Attended my first contest in 2011 and every contest since 2013. The same happened with Melodifestivalen. Started watching in 2006 and been to every final since 2017 and try to make it to at least one heat each year, too. After all, Melodifestivalen is the real deal ♥
