Ukraine plans to participate in Eurovision 2020 unless Russia win

UA:PBC have outlined their initial plans for their Eurovision comeback in 2020

Yesterday, it was revealed that Ukrainian broadcaster UA:PBC has chosen to withdrawn from the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. The broadcaster has now spoken about their plans for Eurovision 2020.

UA:PBC to participate in Eurovision 2020…

Most importantly, UA:PBC has confirmed its intention to participate in next yearโ€™s contest. Additionally, they will continue with a televised national selection. Whether this will be in co-operation with STB as has been the case since 2016 is still to be discussed.

…unless Russia are the hosts

However, UA:PBC confirms that in the event of a Russian victory in Tel Aviv and a subsequent hosting of the 2020 contest in Russia, Ukraine will neither participate or broadcast the contest.

With Russiaโ€™s Sergey Lazarev currently the bookiesโ€™ favourite to win the contest in Tel Aviv, itโ€™s natural to assume this is certainly a possibility.

Nevertheless, UA:PBC will still organise its national selection in such a scenario. Though, of course, the winner would not take part in Eurovision in Russia.

Are you glad that we will see Ukraine back in Eurovision in 2020 unless Russia are the host nation? Let us know!

My first memory of watching the Eurovision Song Contest was back in 2001 and, over the years, my passion and enthusiasm for the contest has very much turned into an obsession. I adore music and I love geography, so this contest is a natural fit for me. If la la loving Eurovision was a crime, I'd certainly be a criminal!
