The word is out! Duncan Laurence has finally revealed the song he is going to sing at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv. The song is called “Arcade” and it had its premiere today.

A surprising choice
Back in January, broadcaster AVROTROS revealed Duncan Laurence as their entrant for Tel Aviv. The 24-year-old is relatively unknown in The Netherlands. He took part in The Voice of Holland a couple of years ago, reaching the live shows in Team Ilse DeLange. Since then, he’s been working on his career. He graduated from the Tilburg Rock Academy just last year.
Ilse DeLange, famous for finishing in second place at the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 with The Common Linnets, pointed the selection committee at AVROTROS towards “Arcade”. As Duncan’s former coach on The Voice, she heard the song and decided to contact the Dutch broadcaster. To support Duncan, she will, when she can, also travel to Tel Aviv.
“Arcade” the final choice
Broadcaster AVROTROS changed its approach this year. Instead of first looking for an artist who would then get the freedom to pick their own song, they wanted the song first. That has turned out to be “Arcade”.
Many songs were rumoured of the past couple of weeks. There was a live performance of a song called “I Miss You”, whilst people also found song registrations of a song with the title “Closer To Your Heart”. None of those songs seem to have ever been in contention, looking at the new approach.
