🇧🇾 BTRC open submissions for Eurovision 2021 entry

No live auditions as usual this year

With the new year upon us, countries are beginning to plan for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. Belarusian broadcaster BTRC has opened submissions to find their next Eurovision entry, calling for all hopefuls to send in a live performance of their song.

Unlike most countries, Belarus’ Eurovision 2020 act, VAL, will not be returning to take part in this year’s contest in Rotterdam, meaning Belarus have to find a new act. Interested artists must submit their songs to the broadcaster by 31st January.

Live videos, no auditions

Usually, BTRC hold open auditions for their selection, which have attracted many different artists over the years – including the UK’s Daz Sampson in 2019. This year, the broadcaster is asking artists to send in a live recording of their entry. Entrants, who must all be over the age of 16, are allowed to submit only one song. Both Belarusian and non-Belarusian citizens are allowed to submit entries.

When the submission window closes on 31st January, a panel of judges will decide which songs will take part in a further selection process. This process will take place in February or March, depending on the situation of the Covid-19 pandemic. It is currently unknown if a national final will be held.

Belarus in the Eurovision Song Contest

Debuting in 2004, Belarus has made six finals. Their first final was in 2007 when Dmitry Koldrun finished 6th place with “Work Your Magic”. This remains Belarus’ best result to date.

Their most recent final was in 2019 with ZENA’s “Like It”. After qualifying in 10th place, Belarus scored 31 points in the final and placed 24th overall. Last year, VAL was selected to represent the national with “Da Vidna”. Following the contest’s cancellation, the duo were not invited back for the 2021 contest following a break down in relations between the group and the broadcaster.

Who would you like to see represent Belarus in Eurovision 2021? Do you think Belarus could make the final this year?
