After being quiet for months, the Irish broadcaster RTÉ finally announced their representative for Eurovision Song Contest 2019 today. Sarah McTernan will represent Ireland in Tel Aviv with “22”!
Who is Sarah McTernan?
25-year-old Sarah McTernan rose to fame after taking part in The Voice of Ireland in 2015. She competed in Rachel Stevens’ team and eventually finished third.
Last year she tried her luck at San Marino’s 1in360 but didn’t make it to the live shows. So far she has released one single, “Eye of the Storm“, written by Ylva and Linda Persson.
The song “22” is written by Janieck, Marcia “Misha” Sondeijker and Roulsen.
Ireland in Eurovision
Ireland has selected their Eurovision representatives internally for the past five years. After failing to qualify four times since 2014, last year Ryan O’Shaughnessy finally took the country back to the final. There he finished 16th out of the 26 songs.
In Eurovision 2019, Ireland will compete in the second semifinal on the 16th of May. Sarah McTernan will perform on the first half of the show.
