Sergey Lazarev and Eurovision

In 2016, Sergey represented Russia in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “You Are the Only One“. He qualified to the final from the first semifinal and won the semifinal by getting almost 100 points more than Armenia on the second place.

In the final, Russia won the televote with 361 points. However, after placing only sixth with the juries, their final result was third place.

Sergey was rumoured to return to the contest for a long time before the Russian broadcaster Russia-1 confirmed him as their Eurovision 2019 representative on February 7th.

Russia in Eurovision

After placing in top ten for five years in a row, Russia has had some rough years. In 2017 they were forced to withdraw from the contest and last year they failed to qualify to the final for the first time.

Russia will compete in the second semifinal of the contest on May 16th. Sergey Lazarev will perform on the second half of the show.
