🇮🇸 Daði & Gagnamagnið: Performance will be ‘pretty much the same’ in Rotterdam

Daði talks about his 2017 Söngvakeppnin entry, the viral dance for Think About Things and Russia's Little Big

While our very own Dominik is on location for the final of Melodifestivalen 2020, he spoke to Iceland’s Daði! He performed his entry “Think About Friends” the Melfest WKND event last night, having won Söngvakeppnin with his band Gagnamagnið.

In the interview, Daði revealed that he originally didn’t intend to perform his 2017 Söngvakeppnin entry “Is This Love?”, and had submitted the song for another artist to sing. However, for “Think About Things”, he had the intention of Eurovision participation.

About the now viral dance accompanying the song, Daði revealed that it was partly inspired by Little Big. Coincidentally, the Russian band have since been announced as Russia’s representatives for Eurovision 2020! Could a collaboration on the cards? Watch this space when they cross paths in Rotterdam…

What is certain is that there will be minimal changes to the performance when it goes to Eurovision, as he confirmed to Dominik.

About Daði & Gagnamagnið

Frontman Daði Freyr Pétursson was born in Reykjavík in 1992, but spent much of his childhood in Denmark, before his family relocated to Denmark when he was nine. In Iceland, he joined the band RetRoBot, who released their album Blackout in 2013. Currently, he is based in Berlin, Germany.

In 2017, Daði made his Söngvakeppnin debut with the song “Hvað með það?” (“Is This Love?”). He was joined by his wife Árný Fjóla Ásmundsdóttir and the band Gagnamagnið. They ended up finishing in second place behind Svala’s “Paper”.

This year, the collective rebranded as a common framework in the form of Daði & Gagnamagnið. Even prior to the final, their entry “Think About Things” began to gain traction online for its fun and playful visuals and choreography. They ended up winning the ticket to Rotterdam in the super final against DIMMA. The official video currently has over 1.8 million views and is a bookies’ favourite to win the contest.
