National finals revisited: From Jon Henrik Fjällgren to Kaia Tamm (Part 2)

Riccardo: Kristina Bærendsen – Mama Said (Iceland)

I do acknowledge the fact that Iceland did absolutely the right thing by choosing Hatari (Icelandic language, hello!) for Tel Aviv, however, Kristina was my clear winner of Söngvakeppnin. I always love a good fierce performance delivered by a good and sassy performer and Kristina does just that, especially when singing in English, even though I always prefer something sang in Icelandic. The song has top notch instrumentation, a cool vibe, the performance was fresh and has an important message (however bitter) – learning to walk alone when the need arises. I attended the second semi-final of Söngvakeppnin this year and I think the most excited among the audience that she got the wildcard. And I am certainly not ashamed of that, quite the contrary in fact! Takk Kristina, and hope to see you at Eurovision in the not so distant future!
