Attention!

Serhat’s ‘Say Na Na Na’ written in five minutes!

I didn't know... A song could be written so quickly!

In a recent interview with INFE Cyprus, Serhat revealed how he came to represent San Marino in this year’s contest. He revealed several fascinating nuggets of information, but most surprisingly that his entry for Tel Aviv ‘Say Na Na Na Na’ was written in just five… yes five minutes!

Serhat explained he was not initially looking to return to the contest. However, he was contacted by SMRTV to see if he was interested in another shot. The singer explained the first thing that came to his mind during the call:

If we have a good song, I will do it

Serhat

Within five minutes, Serhat called the broadcaster back to confirm his interest with a simple sentence: ‘We have the song’. Clearly, the phone call inspired a muse! Serhat’s second entry is quite probably be the fastest written song entered the Eurovision Song Contest? Certainly beats Guy Sebastian’s record of a few days!

Speaking about the song and its inspiration, Serhat explains:

Say Na Na Na is an invitation to celebrate life. It gives hope and happiness to everyone. We all need and deserve it always but especially in these days. The inspiration came from a great musical movie “Sound of Music. There is a fantastic song sung by unique Julie Andrews “My favourite things”. The song tells, if you are afraid just think of good things which make you happy. I wrote the song with this universal approach to life. You are not alone, be a hero be the rainbow… And Say Na Na Na…

Year of the returning artist!

Back in Stockholm, Serhat represented San Marino with the song ‘I Didn’t Know’. Despite the disco-driven performance he only came 12th with 68 points. Nevertheless, Serhat believes he can channel his experience in Stockholm to his advantage:

To be second time at the contest is a little bit different. You are more experienced and stronger than the first time. My expectation is to enjoy it in maximum and sing Say Na Na Na with millions.

Serhat

Of course, Serhat is not the only act returning to the contest for a second shot for the trophy. He will be joining four acts – Sergey, Tamara, Joci Pápai and Nevena respectively.

Will the odds be in Serhat’s favour this year? Let us know in the comments and social media @ESCXTRA!
