XTRA Decides returns for the Eurovison 2022 season! In this feature the team here at ESCXTRA rank the national final songs, giving our choice of the winner. We are ranking the songs using the Eurovision style 12-1 scoring system.
In this special we are ranking each round of Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix 2022 national selection. Farida with the song ‘Dangerous’ has been chosen by the team to win the second semi-final.

This caught my attention pretty much instantaneously. Farida’s vocals are stunning and fit the song like a glove. The haunting melody gradually picks up the pace and sets up a spine tingling chorus which is easily memorable to the listener. As the other reviewers have said, with the right staging this could most definetely be the dark horse of MGP this year. If ‘Dangerous’ proceeds to the final, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if support for this increases tremendously.

This semi is slightly less terrible than last week, and this song is pretty much the reason why. “Dangerous” is a haunting ballad, and Farida’s vocals in studio are really strong. With some really clean, classy staging this should easily win the semi. Lily’s song is firmly in 2000s era Eurovision and the men in this semi aren’t bringing too much new to the table. So yes, this is far and away the best song of the semi, but honestly that’s not a very high bar. Doesn’t mean Norwegian voters won’t shoot themselves in the foot again this week though.

“Death of Me” seems to be the fan favourite ballad of MGP, but I wouldn’t rule this one out either! If Farida performs this well and it makes it to the final, I can see this being a dark horse – and I wouldn’t have a problem with that at all. The dark, mysterious vibe certainly gives it the Billie Eilish does James Bond edge, and I’m not complaining. It really does have a wonderfully warm vibe to it, and it stands miles ahead of the other three entries tonight so as long as Norway makes the right choice, this will have a very deserving place in the final.

This one caught me by surprise in a good way! There’s a really haunting quality about ‘Dangerous’. Between the Gothic organ instrumentation and the fragility of Farida’s vocals. Both build together to create a powerful moment that will really stand out amongst all high energy entries in Melodi Grand Prix this year. If Margaret Berger or Ulrikke had returned with this, everyone would be talking about it in winner terms. So I wouldn’t rule this out as a dark horse if the staging and live performance matches up to what I’ve heard here.
The Melodi Grand Prix 2022 format
All the semi-finals as well as the grand final will be broadcast from the H3 Arena at Fornebu, outside of Oslo. Annika Momrak, Mikkel Niva and Kåre Magnus Bergh will host the shows.
In each semi-final two duels will determine two finalists who will then battle it out in a second round. The winner will progress to the Grand Final. All the other entries later compete in a wildcard round for an additional place in the Grand Final.
