Spain: RNE to air Eurovision for the first time since 2002

Radio Nacional de España will be airing the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. The radio station broadcasted the show for the last time in 2002, when Rosa López represented Spain in Tallin. Spain celebrates this year the 50th anniversary of their last victory in the contest.

The Eurovision Song Contest returns to RNE after seventeen years. The broadcast by RNE will be retransmitted on Radio 5 and Radio Exterior de España, while the responsible for the commentary will be Daniel Galindo. There will also be a special programming: a preview will be aired on Radio 5 during Saturday’s afternoon, and a post Eurovision program will be aired after the contest.

Last year, radio broadcasts were available on fifteen competing countries, and also in Slovakia and the USA.

This year Spain used once again Operación Triunfo to select its representative for Eurovision. However, winning the popular talent show didn’t guarantee a ticket to Tel Aviv. Ten acts competed on “Gala Eurovisión”, and Miki was chosen to represent Spain with 34% of the votes.
