Welcome to The Xtra Files, our new series which will give you an insight into what the team at ESCXTRA think of your favourite entries into this year’s contest! Today, we review Switzerland.
Now that all the songs have been released, we are able to review each and every one of them. Our honest and brutal reviews will keep you entertained until the rehearsals start on 5 May! We will also each give a score out of 10 for every entry, and create an ESCXTRA leaderboard of the entries!
The series continues today, with reviews of the Swiss entry, ‘She Got Me’ by Lisa, Luke, Rodrigo, Rigmo and Vincent. Let’s get started!
The Reviews
Lisa
I generally like Switzerland in Eurovision a lot more than most despite their poor track record in qualification. So I was really excited when Luca was rumoured, with his archive of tropical bangers and propensity for delivering a stage show with his dance background. Therefore ‘She Got Me’ has delivered beyond all my expectations.
That female dancer in the music video has certainly got me dirty dancing! That needs to be an aesthetic kept for Tel Aviv to enhance the theme of the song. The chanty drum claps wrapped around a Middle Eastern bass drop makes this one of the most addictive songs of 2019. I defy anyone to not want to shake their hips to this in Euroclub during the May fortnight!
Luke
Luca has certainly got me dirty dancing to this. Dancing because the song is mindblowingly good, especially from Switzerland, and “dirty” because he is an absolute dish. Seriously though, I think this blew everyone’s minds when it was released, nobody was expecting something this good and unless the live performance is bad, I can’t see this being outside of the top 5 in the final.
Rodrigo
Getting very rowdy here, sí señor…it’s as though Switzerland is finally 21st-century-ready at Eurovision, and they decided to jump into this century with a proper banger. She Got Me is everything all their other entries are not. Fresh, modern, catchy, danceable and just generally great. The fact that Luca is HOT AF does not hurt one tiny bit. Every single time I listen to this I’m transported to a hot club in the middle of a tropical paradise and picture myself having a great time with my friends or dancing dirtily with my husband. Go on, Switzerland, go wild like an animal…
Rigmo
Tired of being the sigh of relief heard in other countries when they find out you are in the same semi as them, Switzerland have actually come up with a dangerous concoction this time. Take three cups of Despacito, two cups of Tango week on Strictly Come Dancing and one cup of 80s Patrick Swayze movies. Mix it all up, serve shaken (not stirred) and you are ready for the dancefloor! Let’s just look past the fact that getting rowdy will likely just result in your ass getting kicked and trying to “dirty dance” is the quickest way to get your name added to an offenders list on a very particular database. Who said Eurovision was ever a place for good advice. I’m just happy to see the younger generation take fashion advice from Serhat circa 2016, the man was truly ahead of his time…
Vincent
Yes, it’s a bit too latino to be Swiss, but this is not an issue for me. It’s catchy, it makes you dance and shout…what more can you ask? We had doubts about his live vocals before Amsterdam, and I found that he was good enough, with the dancing being excellent. Obviously the vocals could be better, but some backing vocalists could mend that easily. So I have great hopes for the final performance on TV.
