🇮🇪RTÉ to select their 2022 Eurovision entry via a National Final!

On Friday 17th September live on the popular Irish late night chat show Late Late Show, the broadcaster responsible for the Irish participation at the Eurovision Song Contest – RTÉ has announced that they will select their 2022 entry on the “Eurovision Late Late Show Special

You can view the announcement below.

Mission Statement

On the RTÉ website they have a clear mission statement and it is the following.

The show is particularly popular with youth audiences and younger adult viewers throughout Europe. RTÉ wants to hear from contemporary Irish artists and songwriters with the talent and ambition to compete and succeed in this highly competitive environment. This is a rare and valuable opportunity for artists and songwriters to gain exposure on a global scale – the rewards for achieving a top ten result in the final can be significant.

If you are an accomplished songwriter with a proven track record of success in the music industry, we would like you to submit a song together with a suitable performer(s) to be considered to represent Ireland.

All songs must be submitted with an artist(s) already attached, artists must have the talent, drive and ambition to compete at the highest level before a global audience of over 200 million people. Artists putting themselves forward (with a song) must have intrinsic and obvious appeal to the core youth audiences who make up a significant amount of Eurovision viewers and fans.

Although we wish to encourage and identify promising new talent for the future, this is probably not an opportunity for beginners or people with limited or no experience of performing in public to large crowds.

For the Eurovision Song Contest in 2020. RTÉ announced that Lesley Roy would represent the 7 time champions in Rotterdam with the song “Story Of My Life”. Due to the Covid_19 pandemic, the contest was cancelled. However RTÉ allowed Lesley to roll over into 2021, where she performed the uptempo song “Maps”. She competed in Semi Final One but sadly didn’t qualify for the final despite an elaborate stage show. She finished in 16th and Last Place with 20 points.
