An Xtra Happy Birthday; 23 July!

Greetings to Finland and Israel!

Today we have two birthday boys to celebrate; one birthday down from yesterday’s three! One of them represented Israel, without the same success as Netta; Tal Sondak. The other participated twice; both in 67 and 76! For some of you this is enough to tell you who he is. However, for those of us who aren’t quite that much of a Eurovision encyclopedia; we give you Fredi!

Fredi, 76

Born Matti Kalevi Siitonen, Fredi represented Finland at the 1967 Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna. He performed the song “Varjoon – suojaan”, finishing 12th with only three points. He returned to the contest in 1976, when it was hosted in The Hague. On this occasion he took part with his group Fredi & The Friends. Their song was called “Pump-Pump“, and they finished 11th.

Tal Sondak, 42

Tal Sondak represented Israel at the 2001 Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen. He performed the song “Ein Davar” and reached 16th place with a total of 25 points. According to Wikipedia, the song is a ballad. We would however say it’s more of a latin inspired summer song. Apparently, so did Tal and his team, judged by the preview video, where a lot of happy people are on a beach, enjoying themselves.
