Welcome to May! Welcome to the month of Eurovision! To start off this month, here’s our weekly quiz which just so happens to fall on the first of May. We’re finishing off our informal association with the now concluded Xtra Files (Sweden, Azerbaijan and Greece still have questions from there) and diving right into the news announced about the jurors, the spokespersons, and the upcoming rehearsals for our trivia! I hope you’ve been paying attention.
Therefore, every question in this quiz is related to ESCXtra articles published during the last week. Maybe also a few days either side. Maybe it’s some information that our writers left in the article. Sometimes it’ll require a little bit of Eurovision knowledge outside of that. The majority of the answers will have been on this website very recently.
In any case, I hope you’ll join us and have an attempt at the very latest in Eurovision trivia. It’ll also serve as a useful reminder of the songs you’ve been listening to.
Minor technical note: I’ve noticed that sometimes the quizzes do not work in that you are unable to click on any of the answers. If this has happened to you, please try changing browsers, using a computer instead of mobile or updating them, this tends to fix the problem.
Where do we think Sweden's Too Late For Love is most likely to end up from the reviews?
The consensus around Too Late For Love in general is that it's a competent, polished Swedish entry that is unlikely to go all the way but will nevertheless give them another good result.
What happened last year that Azerbaijan might want to tell you to 'shut up about it', as Chingiz does in Truth?
I do so desperately want to mark 'awful song' as correct, because in my opinion it is, but we deal in terms of facts here and it was also their first non-qualifier. So I was vindicated. Also, that is the reason for the article image, if you were wondering. It might be amusing if you assume that Aisel ended up, ahem, running scared of the juries.
The last entry reviewed for the Xtra Files, where is Katerina Duska from... besides Greece?
What was, according to the Xtra Files, ESCXtra's overall favourite entry?
A score of 8.65 for both The Netherlands and Switzerland meant they were tied at the top of the leaderboard but as our article on the Netherlands explains, through tie-breaking, Duncan Lawrence won overall.
What day do rehearsals start?
Make sure you're on time on Saturday morning (10am) to see our coverage, and Cyprus kicking us off with their first rehearsal. See this article for the full schedule: https://escxtra.com/2019/04/29/eurovision-2019-rehearsal-schedule/
What city in the UK is Michael Rice from?
Which former entrant for Hungary sits on their jury?
Remember, Joci Papai is their entrant this year!
Which Australia Decides participant is their spokesperson this year?
How many jurors does each country get to rank their votes?
Which of the following criteria is NOT one that the Eurovision jury marks songs on?
While they'll certainly appeal to the viewers at home, and may find their way into the jury marks indirectly based on their 'performance' marks, the Eurovision juries don't have to care how you are dressed. which means all traditionally-minded jurors have NO excuse not to give Iceland top marks
