With rehearsals due to kick off tomorrow, artists are beginning to arrive in Tel Aviv. The first to arrive is Australia’s Kate Miller-Heidke! To mark her arrival, she has released an acoustic, piano version of her Eurovision entry.
We are no strangers to alternative versions of Zero Gravity. Two weeks ago, she released two remixes of Zero Gravity – by 7th Heaven and Where it’s ATT. By contrast, this latest version features just Kate and a piano, showcasing her vocal talent. You can watch the clip below:
Who is Kate Miller-Heidke?
Kate Miller-Heidke is a 37-year-old singer, songwriter and actress from Brisbane. She started her career playing in several Brisbane bands; she was the lead singer and songwriter for Elsewhere between 2000 and 2003. Since going solo, she has released four studio albums: Little Eve (2007), Curiouser (2008), Nightflight (2012) and O Vertigo! (2014).
After a break from the spotlight, she emerged triumphant in Australia’s first national final. She topped both the jury vote and the televote in Australia Decides, winning the ticket to represent Australia in Tel Aviv. She will be hoping to continue Australia’s 100% qualification streak when she performs 12th in semi-final 1 on May 14.
Australia at the Eurovision Song Contest
Australia has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest four times since their debut at the 2015 contest in Vienna. The country’s best result in the contest is a second-place finish for Dami Im in 2016 with “Sound of Silence”. They also finished in the top ten in two of its other appearances in the contest, with Guy Sebastian finishing fifth in 2015, and Isaiah Firebrace finishing ninth in 2017.
Australia’s participation in the 2015 contest was set to be a one-off event, the plan being only to perform again the following year had they won. However, we can expect plenty more of Australia at the contest in the years to come, since their participation has been secured until 2023.
