Strictly Eurovision

This isn’t the first time Eurovision has been performed on Strictly Come Dancing. In fact this is the sixth time, here are the other five occasions Eurovision has featured.

The first time came all the way back in Series 6. Tom Chambers and his Danish partner Camilla Dallerup performed the Jive to “Waterloo” by ABBA. Similarly to ABBA who won in Brighton in 1974, Tom went on to win the series.

Afterwards we had to wait a little while longer for the second Eurovision song. Five years to be exactly when in Series 11 businesswoman Deborah Meaden and her partner Robin Windsor danced the Jive to the British 1981 winner “Making Your Mind Up” by Bucks Fizz.

Only two years followed until Eurovision song number three appeared. In this instance Georgia May Foote and her Italian partner Giovanni Pernice danced the Samba to “Volare”. “Volare” was known as “Nel blu, dipinto di blu” and represented Italy in 1958. This Grammy winning song came in third place.

A year later we had Eurovision song number four. When Robert “Judge” Rinder danced the Viennese Waltz to “Boom Bang A Bang” by Lulu. Lulu one of the four co-champions of 1969 actually participated on Strictly herself with her New Zealand born partner Brendan Cole.

Last time a Eurovision song was performed on Strictly was the 1996 world wide smash hit “Ooh Aah…Just A Little Bit”. Coming in eighth place for the UK performed by Australian singer Gina G. This was performed by Stacey Dooley and her partner Kevin Clifton. They went on to win Series 16. They are a real life couple now.
