Conan Osiris wins the Barbara Dex Award 2019

Portugal have won the Barbara Dex Award 2019. Their entrant Conan Osiris received the highest amount of votes. He’s been chosen as the ‘most notable’ dressed contestant of the Eurovision Song Contest in 2019 and becomes the successor of Eye Cue, who won the award last year.

Green reptile for the Barbara Dex Award 2019

When Conan Osíris revealed his Eurovision outfit during his first rehearsals, many compared it to a reptile. The green costume with the red background obviously represented Portugal’s national colours, but most of the attention was taken by the outfit itself. Complete with the black resonance box tied around his chin, it made a picture many couldn’t work with.

Tamta comes close

Where Eleni Foureira finished second at the Eurovision Song Contest, Tamta finished second on the Barbara Dex Award. Her latex outfit with dress change did not go down particularly well. In third place, we see another girl with high boots: ZENA from Belarus

Furthermore, Eliot from Belgium and Tamara Todevska from North Macedonia complete the top five. In total, Songfestival.be received over 4000 votes for the award, which has become a tradition in the aftermath of the Eurovision Song Contest.

Recently, Songfestival.be changed the description of the Barbara Dex Award from ‘worst dressed’ to ‘most notable outfit’, responding to claims of negative attention for artists.
