Måneskin receive two nominations at MTV Video Music Awards 2022

The group are nominated for 'Best New Artist' and 'Best Alternative Video'

This week MTV have released the nominees for the MTV Video Music Awards 2022. Among the list for the MTV VMAs 2022 are Italy’s Eurovision 2021 winners, Måneskin, who have received nominations in two categories.

Måneskin break Italian MTV VMAs record

Last year Italy’s 2021 Eurovision winners, Måneskin won ‘Best Rock’ at the MTV EMAs 2021, as well as receiving two further nominations. Following the release of new single, ‘Supermodel‘, MTV have recognised their achievements in the industry once more. The VMAs are a celebration of the music video medium. As well as the chance to win the famous, “moon man” astronaut trophy. With nominations in two major categories, this is the first time an Italian act has received a nomination in a main category. As the band of the moment, putting Italian rock on the world stage, they have earned nominations for ‘Best New Artist’ and ‘Best Alternative Video’. The latter for, ‘I Wanna Be Your Slave‘.

However, they face tough competition in both categories. Also nominated for ‘Best New Artist’ are Baby Keem, Dove Cameron, Gayle, Latto and the Seventeen. Meanwhile in ‘Best Alternative Video’ they are up against ‘Love It When You Hate Me’ by Avril Lavigne and Blackbear, ‘Enemy’ by Imagine Dragons and JID, ‘E mo Girl’ by Machine Gun Kelly and Willow, ‘Viva Las Vengeance’ by Panic! at the Disco, ‘Saturday’ by Twenty One Pilots and ‘Grow’ by Willow, Avril Lavigne and Travis Barker..

You can have your say and help Måneskin by visiting the MTV voting website. Each person can vote 10 times per day in every category. The show kicks off live from New Jersey’s Prudential Centre and will air across all MTV channels Sunday August 28 8pm ET or 1am GMT Monday morning in the UK.

Måneskin in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021

Last year, Måneskin won Festival di Sanremo with an impressive 53.5% of the vote in the super-final, beating two former Italian Eurovision representatives in the process, Francesca Michelin (2016) and Ermal Meta (2018).

After an exciting voting segment in the Rotterdam contest, Italy was announced as the winner with 524 points – their first win since Toto Cutugno in 1990. Scoring 206 points from the juries and a further 318 televoting points. Thus, Måneskin finished 25 points ahead of France’s Barbara Pravi, who finished runner-up with 499 points.

Following their victory, the band have achieved worldwide chart success. From reaching top 40 in the Billboard charts, to being playlisted by BBC Radio 1. As well as collaborating with Iggy Pop and plans afoot to release their third album.

Recently the band embarked on their first world tour. Such was the demand, the aptly named, LOUD KIDS ON TOUR ’22 sold out completely within two hours! Along the way the band performed at Coachella and will perform at Reading and Leeds Festival, as well as the US tour dates later this year. Already they have been recognised by the Brit Awards and MTV. There is no stopping this pioneering band, who have amassed nearly 200 million combined YouTube views for ‘Zitti E Buoni’ and over 200 million Spotify streams.
