Anne-Marie David calls for the return of Luxembourg to Eurovision

The former Eurovision winner is keen for the return

In an interview with France Televisions, Anne-Marie David has said that it’s “essential” for Luxembourg to return to the Eurovision stage.

Luxembourg’s history at Eurovision

Luxembourg hasn’t participated at the Eurovision Song Contest since 1993. Despite an enviable history that includes five contest victories, the national broadcaster, RTL, continues to stay away from the world’s biggest singing competition. In the interview the 1973 Eurovision winner said “Fans of the competition in Luxembourg are asking for the return to Eurovision. Let’s mobilize, because it’s essential!” The French singer also highlights Luxembourg’s illustrious history: “Luxembourg is one of the countries that won the most Eurovisions in the time they participated in the competition.

A local online newspaper, Luxemburger Wort, quotes Anne-Marie David’s comments and also delves deeper into the story. It cites a 2013 fan petition to the Luxembourg Chambre des Dรฉputรฉs that urged RTL to rethink its non-participation. In response, RTL said that finances were the reason for the continued absence.

As a writer with the Eurovision disposition it was only inevitable that I should find myself merging these two interests. If it wasn't Sonia singing "Better the Devil You Know" that got me hooked on Eurovision, then it was the Gina G banger "Just a Little Bit". The 90's is where it all started for me, who knows where I'll end up!
