According to Austrian newspaper Kleine Zeitung, either pop duo ANGER or DJ LUM!X will represent Austria at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022. The final decision is set to be made next week.
Two weeks ago there seemed to be a shortlist of four artists but now Kleine Zeitung reports only ANGER and LUM!X are left in the race.
Pop duo ANGER consists of Julian Angerer and Nora Pider who hail from Brixen in South Tyrol but live in Vienna. Their sound has been described as “combining autotune with electric guitars and techno beats”. ANGER are not only active in Austria, but also performed in festivals in Germany and Spain. The duo already has a number-one on the FM4 radio charts and was awarded the FM4 award at the prestigious Amadeus Austrian Music Awards in 2020.
DJ LUM!X (Luca Michlmayr) has gained success with hits such as “The Passenger (LaLaLa)” and “Thunder“. In 2019, he released the song “Monster” with Gabry Ponte, who is known from the group Eiffel 65. The song has been reached over 200 million streams on Spotify and it has sold more than 400,000 copies in Germany, given the artists a platinum record. Overall, he has over one billion streams and multiple platinum and gold certifications.
The Austrian broadcaster ORF is set to make the final decision next week. This is the sixth consecutive time Austria is selecting their entry internally. The country hopes to qualify to the final for the first time since 2018, when Cesár Sampson finished third in the grand final of the contest. Austria will compete in the first semifinal of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin, Italy.
