Slovenia is not returning to Junior Eurovision in 2019

Slovenia’s national broadcaster, RTVSLO, reported that the country would not be present in Gliwice-Silesia, Poland, for the 2019 Junior Eurovision Song Contest. This marks the fourth contest in a row that they have missed out on since their last participation in 2015.

RTVSLO cited the high costs of participation and the new time slot that the contest occurs in as the reasons for not participating. In 2016, the European Broadcasting Union moved JESC from Saturday night to Sunday afternoon. The spokesperson for RTVSLO claimed that the cost of participating was too high for the time slot the contest takes place in.

Slovenia first competed in 2014 with the song “Nisi Sam (Your Light)” by Ula Ložar, which placed 12th out of 16 songs.

The next year, Slovenia was represented by Lina Kuduzović with the song “Prva Ljubezen,” finishing third. Third place is the highest place Slovenia has ever come in either contest.
