Belarus become 17th country to confirm participation in Junior Eurovision 2019

Hot on the heels of yesterday’s announcement that Spain would return to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, 2018 host nation Belarus have confirmed that they will also be sharing the joy in Poland’s Gliwice Arena this November.

The national final is returning

BTRC also confirmed that Belarus will select their 2019 Junior Eurovision representative via a national final once again. Last year, Daniel Yastremski won the honour of representing the host nation in Minsk with “Time”. He went onto finish in 11th place, which was unfortunately Belarus’ lowest placing since 2004.

Current focus on the European Games

The Belarusian broadcaster also revealed that this late announcement is due to BTRC’s focus on the ongoing 2019 European Games in Minsk. Consequently, further detail regarding the national selection will be revealed following the conclusion of the Games.

17 nations confirmed, three more to come?

This makes Belarus the 17th nation to confirm participation in Gliwice-Silesia. Whilst Azerbaijan’s participation is unsure, both Italy and Kazakhstan are currently expected to join the line-up. If all three were to participate, it would make a 20-strong list of participants.

My first memory of watching the Eurovision Song Contest was back in 2001 and, over the years, my passion and enthusiasm for the contest has very much turned into an obsession. I adore music and I love geography, so this contest is a natural fit for me. If la la loving Eurovision was a crime, I'd certainly be a criminal!
