In the final week of Pride month, events across Spain are set to feature a number of former Eurovision acts! Barcelona Pride is set to have performances from Eleni Foureira, Tamta and Soraya among others. Meanwhile, Mikolas Josef, Luca Hänni and KEiiNO are part of a star-studded line up for Madrid Pride!
Considering the heavy crossover between the Eurovision Song Contest and the LGBTQ+ community, it comes as little surprise that former Eurovision stars have been performing across Europe this past month – the month of Pride. This is exemplified by the line ups of Pride events in both Barcelona and Madrid this week, which feature past and present Eurovision stars!
Barcelona Pride
2019 Barcelona Pride will be take place on the 28th and 29th of June, comprising of numerous events and concerts across the city. These events all come under the We are family slogan, reminiscent of the spirit of the contest itself. As such, it is little surprise to see how many former Eurovision stars will be performing at these events, including:
- Tamta (Cyprus 2019)
- Eleni Foureira (Cyprus 2018)
- Soraya (Spain 2009)
- Karina (Spain 1971)
Cyprus’ 2018 representative and ESC runner-up Eleni Foureira will be bringing her fuego to the Barcelona Pride stage for the second consecutive year. She will be performing a new set featuring songs from her Gypsy Woman EP on Friday June 28. Spain’s Eurovision 2009 artist Soraya will also be performing on the Friday. Fellow Cyprus representative Tamta will be performing on Saturday June 29, making this her first time attending Barcelona Pride!
Madrid Gay Pride
Spain’s capital will also be hosting one of the biggest and glitziest Pride events of the entire season, running from June 28th to July 7th. The Orgullo Gay Madrid (Madrid Gay Pride) will be marking its 41st anniversary this year. Events across the capital are set to feature a range of Eurovision stars, including:
- Luca Hänni (Switzerland 2019)
- KEiiNO (Norway 2019)
- Mikolas Josef (Czech Republic 2018)
- Soraya (Spain 2009)
- La Decada Prodigiosa (Spain 1988)
- Azucar Moreno (Spain 1990)
- Micky (Spain 1977)
Azucar Moreno, who represented Spain back in 1990 with “Bandido”, will be performing on 3 July at the Orgullo y Ole event at Puerta del Sol. On Thursday July 4, Puerta del Sol will be hosting a Eurovision Pride show! The line up includes Luca Hänni, La Decada Prodigiosa, KEiiNO, Soraya and La Decada Prodigiosa. Later in the week, Czech 2018 representative Mikolas Josef will be performing at the Final of Mr. Gay Spain at Puerta del Sol on Friday 5 July.
