Fear of coming last has been a factor

In a recent interview with Bang Showbiz, Steps member Claire Richards have mentioned that the group could potentially participate at the Eurovision Song Contest in the future.

‘There’s a few texts going backwards and forwards’

In her interview with Bang Showbiz, Claire has mentioned she always rejects the idea of participating in the Eurovision Song Contest. She has however mentioned that whenever she watches the contest, her rejection weakens for a time.

“See I’m always the one that goes, Ah No, Absolutely Not and then I watch Eurovision and then I go, we could maybe do it and there are a few texts going backwards and forwards”

Claire also mentioned that the fear of potentially placing last at the Grand Final has been a factor when the interest of participating in the contest arose.

“If you do that show, you can’t ever go in there expecting to win and we would have to have that attitude. But we’ve always been so lucky that everything we’ve ever done has always been so great and I think the experience would be amazing, but it’s just that feeling that we would not want to come last, because that would be really bad.

Not the first time Steps have been linked to Eurovision

This is not the first instance in which Steps have been linked to hopefully representing the United Kingdom at the contest.

Last year, Finnish representative Saara Aalto, who had the pleasure of touring with the group at the time, has mentioned that she knows fans of the group are interested in them representing the country. Saara even mentioned that maybe she should ‘join them’ and represent the United Kingdom alongside the group.

In addition to this, Steps have also won the OGAE Song Contest with their song “Scared of The Dark”, from their album Tears on the Dancefloor, which reached the Top 40 in the United Kingdom.

I started watching Eurovision ever since I moved to the UK in 2006, obsessed since 2012 and haven't looked back since.
