Junior Eurovision: Georgia accepting song submissions until September 1st

Search for a song for Tamar Edilashvili underway

Georgia is one of the two countries that has already selected its entrant for Minsk. Georgian broadcaster (GBP) is now accepting song submissions. 

A song for Tamar

Back in May, Tamar Edilashvili won the selection show “Ranina“, earning the right to represent her country in Minsk. Now she needs a song and Georgian broadcaster is accepting submissions until September 1st. Those interested can submit their songs to [email protected] and they must:

  • not exceed 3 minutes in length
  • be in Georgian

Georgia in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest

Georgia debuted at Junior Eurovision in 2007, represented by Mariam Romelashvili who came 4th with her entry “Odelia Ranuni“. The country has enjoyed a series of good results at Junior Eurovision, winning three times, in 2008 with Bzikebi, in 2011 with Candy and 2016 with Mariam Mamadashvili. They also came second twice, in 2012 and 2017. Last year, Georgia’s capital Tbilisi was the host of Junior Eurovision, the first time the country hosted a Eurovision-related event. Their representative, Grigol Kipshidze ended up in second place only 4 points shy of victory.

Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018

Belarus’s capital Minsk will be the host of the 2018 edition of Junior Eurovision. This is the second time the event takes place in the city, who previously hosted it in 2010. The city was selected as host last year, before the 2017 edition of the show. So far, 14 countries have confirmed their intent of participating in Minsk, and they are:

  • Armenia
  • Belarus
  • France
  • FYR Macedonia
  • Georgia
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • Netherlands
  • Poland
  • Portugal
  • Russia
  • Serbia
  • Wales

France will return to the contest, having only participated once back in 2004, and Wales will instead make a debut.
At the moment two countries that participated to the contest last year (Albania and Australia) have yet to make a statement regarding their intentions for Minsk. On the other hand, two countries that participated last year, Cyprus and Ukraine, both confirmed their withdrawal from the competition.
