After narrowly missing out in qualifying for the grand final of the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest, North Macedonia’s Andrea has released another brand new single. ”Close to the Sun” is available on all of your favourite streaming platforms right now!
”Meant for Eurovision”
Alongside the release of “Close to the Sun”, Andrea also revealed via her Instagram page that the song was ”meant for Eurovision” with the song’s three-minute length as evidence of that. Nevertheless, in the end it was with ”Circles” that Andrea entered North Macedonia’s new selection ”Za Evrosong” with in February and earned the right to represent her nation in Turin.

North Macedonia at Eurovision
In Turin, Andrea finished in 11th place in the second semi-final thus missing out by the narrowest of margins in qualifying for the grand final. ”Circles” earned 10th place with the national juries and 16th place with the televoting. North Macedonia’s best Eurovision result remains the 7th place achieved by Tamara Todevska in 2019 with ”Proud”.
North Macedonia have only managed to qualify for the grand final in two of the last fourteen contests, but on four of those occasions has the country missed out by just one place. In 2008 with “Let Me Love You” and in 2009 with “Nešto što kje ostane”, the Balkan nation placed tenth in the semi-final but was eliminated as only the top nine in each semi-final automatically qualified for the grand final in those years. The tenth qualifier was selected by juries alone. Then, in 2016 with ”Dona” and in 2022 with “Circles” North Macedonia placed 11th.
