The sun is out and the summer festival season is in full swing. This week Malta’s Eurovision stars including Michela Pace and Gaia Cauchi braved the heatwave and attended the annual Isle of MTV Malta festival to light up the stage.
Isle of MTV Malta
Beginning in 2002, MTV Europe’s annual music festival is a free summer event bringing together some of the leading names in the global charts for a party fans and tourists won’t forget. The first edition was held in the Eurovision 2018 host city of Lisbon. Since 2007 MTV’s party bus has remained in the picturesque town of Floriana, just outside of Malta’s capital, Valletta. With the stars taking to the stage in the historic Il Fosos Square. Over 10,000 visitors attend the festival on the tiny Mediterranean island each year.
Many Maltese make much merriment
This year the lineup included headliner DJ Martin Garrix, Grammy winner Bebe Rexha, Rudimental, up and coming star Ava Max and ‘Godfather of Grime’ Wiley. Also performing were Malta’s leading names in the music business. Rising talent Emma Muscat, as well as familiar names from the Eurovision world. With the second series of The X Factor Malta in full swing, the runner-up from the first series, Owen Leuwellen opened the show with his signature urban sound punctuated with his slick raps. Follow his day at the festival on his Instagram stories.
Also performing was Malta’s Junior Eurovision 2013 winner Gaia Cauchi. So excited to be part of the events, Gaia even gave away two pit passes to two lucky fans! Further to this, Gaia revealed a sneak preview of her new single coming soon, ‘Why Should I?‘ This appears to show a more grown up style to Gaia’s new music as she narrates a passage saying goodbye to a broken heart.
Of course an invite was also extended to Malta’s 2019 Eurovision representative Michela Pace. The first winner of Malta’s most successful TV show, The X Factor Malta continued her busy summer performing at the Maltese festival, after revealing on social media that new music and a full album release is on the way. Last month Michela performed a special homecoming concert in Valletta to thank fans for their support on her X Factor and Eurovision journey.

It all started by winning the 1st edition of Xfactor Malta and my career starting falling in motion like a set of dominos. Performing in the Eurovision with an audience of 200million watching me, sharing the stage with a great deal of stars, co-writing my original songs, travelling abroad to record my album and today performing at @isleofmtv . What can I say ? I’m so humble for you the people, without your constant support I wouldn’t be were I am today. See you tonight guys xoxo @g7eventsmalta @xfactormalta @jaggedhouse
Although the main event has concluded, there are still club nights linked to the Isle of MTV Malta happening around the island. Tickets for a party weekend of bangers can be purchased here.
Michela Pace at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019
In wowing the Maltese public with her powerful vocals, Michela won the first series of The X Factor Malta. A switch in direction from the old MESC selection process which chose both the singer and song. After the X Factor Final Michela worked with the experienced Bulgarian writing team Symphonix to select her song. Eventually it was decided that Michela would literally be a ‘Chameleon’. Making a change from her ballad style to a tropical house bop. Thus bringing the party from Malta to Tel Aviv. At the contest earlier this May Michela opened the Grand Final and placed a credible 14th with 103 points.
