Luxembourg say ‘No’ to return in 2020

RTL explain reasons for no return

Its official – Luxembourg will not return to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2020.

National broadcaster RTL confirmed to fellow Eurovision website ESCToday that they have no plans to return to the contest and thus would not be making a return next year.

Eurovision is not the ‘future vision’ for us

When giving reasons for their decision, RTL outlined that the contest is not in the broadcaster’s vision for the future. Instead, they plan to concentrate on news features rather than music entertainment shows. It is also mentioned that a participation would likely cause unnecessary financial strain.

Luxembourg debuted at the very first Eurovision Song Contest in 1956, alongside fellow founding members – France, Italy, Germany, The Netherlands and Belgium. Despite five wins in the 60s, 70s & 80s, the nation last participated in 1993, represented by Modern Times with the song “Donne-moi une chance”.
