Slovenia’s RTVSLO open submission window for EMA 2020

Newly launched 'EMA FRES' offers free ticket to EMA 2020

Slovenian broadcaster, RTVSLO, have today kicked off their selection for next year’s contest with the opening of a 3 month submission window.

With the news that EMA will return in 2020, the broadcaster have announced an expansion to the main competition.

Fresh approach hopes to attract young talent to EMA

RTVSLO have announced EMA FREŠ, an online selection in which user submitted tracks will be posted to the RTV website and across social media. Visitors will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite composition on a daily basis, with the winners proceeding to an end of week vote-off. The winner of the competition will be awarded with a place in the main competition itself.

Performers under the age of twenty six who have released no more than three copyrighted songs will be automatically enrolled into this project.

RTV hope that the introduction of EMA FREŠ will encourage younger musicians to submit their compositions. The application deadline for EMA FREŠ is 19th September, with the competition itself likely to begin soon after.

‘EMA 2020’ submission window also open

The submission window for the main competition is also now open. Interested composers can apply for EMA 2020 via the EMA website and have until 18th November to send in their material.

Slovene success in Eurovision

Earlier this year, Slovenia scored their best placing in Eurovision since 2015. Zala Kralj & Gašper Šantl placed 15th in the grand final with the hypnotic “Sebi”. Furthermore, the duo earned their nation their fourth qualification in the past six years – Slovenia’s most successful run since the introduction of the semi-finals.
