The 2nd edition of the choir competition was won by Denmark

Moments ago in the Partille Arena in Gothenburg, the group Vocal Line were crowned the winners of the Eurovision Choir 2019 contest.

Vocal Line were the victorious choir for Denmark, conducted by Jens Johansen. Beating the 9 other choirs, the group sang “True North” in the first round and “Viola” in the final. The winner was decided by votes from a professional jury. The jury consisted of Katarina Henryson (Singer and composer), John Rutter (composer and conductor) and Deke Sharon (singer, director, producer and composer). The contest coincided with the week-long European Choir Games and Grand Prix of Nations, which are also taking place. It is expected that over 1 million viewers watched tonight’s show.

The hosts for the event were SVTโ€™s Ella Petersson who is the head of the music department and hosts many of SVTโ€™s cultural programming and music documentaries. Alongside her was BBC Radio 3โ€™s Petroc Trelawny who will commentate this summerโ€™s BBC Proms and who also previous hosted Eurovision Young Musicians 2018.

With Vocal Line winning the Eurovision Choir 2019, they also get to represent their country again at the World Choir Games in Flanders, Belgium in July 2020.

As a writer with the Eurovision disposition it was only inevitable that I should find myself merging these two interests. If it wasn't Sonia singing "Better the Devil You Know" that got me hooked on Eurovision, then it was the Gina G banger "Just a Little Bit". The 90's is where it all started for me, who knows where I'll end up!
