The Scoop

Pierce Brosnan to star in upcoming Eurovision film

A few days ago we told you everything there is to know about the upcoming Netflix film based on Eurovision. Now as filming is due to start this week, it has been confirmed that Pierce Brosnan will star in it alongside Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams.

A star-studded line up

Brosnan should have no problem if he is required to sing for his latest role stunt, as he featured in both Mamma Mia films, reciting many of ABBA’s greatest hits. The experienced actor will join Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams. It is believed that all three will play Icelanders in the film.

Filming will take place in three locations: Húsavík in Iceland, London in the United Kingdom and Tel Aviv in Israel. It seems that much of the filming has already taken place in Tel Aviv. The audience watching dress rehearsals from this year’s contest had the chance to see various performances that were choreographed especially for the film. These are more than likely to feature in the Netflix adaption of the contest.

Getting to know the experience

While Rachel McAdams was seen at the 2019 contest in Tel Aviv, Will Ferrell made an unexpected appearance in Lisbon during Eurovision 2018. Ferrell has been aware of the contest since 1999, as his wife, Swedish-born Viveca Paulin, introduced him to it.

While there’s a lot of talk about the film adaption of Eurovision, Netflix have yet to announce anything about it. Rest assured, there has been good progress over the last year. Keep following us at ESCXTRA as we’ll break any further news on this in the near future.
