Inger Berggren passes away aged 85

Inger Berggren, who represented Sweden in Eurovision Song Contest 1962, has passed away aged 85.

Life and career

Inger was born in 1934 in Stockholm. Before her Eurovision participation, she was trained at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music and sang in orchestras. Later in life she worked as a music teacher and even did some acting.

Her Eurovision entry “Sol och vår” became the biggest hit in her career. In that year’s Melodifestivalen, the songs were all performed by two singers: Inger herself alongside Lily Berglund. The song was moderately successful in Eurovision, finishing in 7th place (tied with Finland).

She returned to Melodifestivalen in 1967, but this time as a composer. The song “Vem frågar vinden” was performed by Towa Carson and ended in 5th place. Outside of Eurovision and Melodifestivalen, she also had two big hits with “Elisabeth serenade” and “Twist till menuett” in the early 1960s.

Inger Berggren passed away in her sleep on July 19th. ESCXTRA’s thoughts are with her friends and family at this difficult time.
