Never ‘Too Late’ for us on New Music Friday! North Macedonia’s fan favourites from Lisbon 2018 Eye Cue, are back with a brand new single.
Not ‘Too Late’ for new Eye Cue music
Last month our favourite North Macedonian duo treated us to the melancholic electro banger ‘Love Me Hate Me‘. Now they follow it up with another stirring anthem. The light-hearted whimsy of ‘Lost and Found’ has progressed over the trilogy of singles released since. As we come to ‘Too Late’ the mood has evolved and Marija offers a fierce narrative of a woman in control of her destiny, that knows what she wants. It relates to anyone stuck in a bad relationship and feeling the release of having moved on. “I only want to be with me and if the phone ring ding ding, I’m not answering.”
Recorded in London, following the duos extended stint in the UK in their busy 2019 schedule, ‘Too Late’ still has the familiar guitar riffs we know from Eye Cue. However there’s now an added grit to the punchy beats we’re familiar with. The influences of the British indie-electro scene are also notable in the melody. Marija’s smooth vibrato glides across the instrumentation effortlessly as she emotes the story of the lyrics.
It’s too late for me and you
Eye Cue, ‘Too Late’ (2019)
Now we’re done, we’re through
I’m gonna leave it behind
It’s too late, I guess it’s true
I’m gonna leave it, leave it behind
Eye Cue at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018
The popular duo of Bojan Trajkovski and Marija Ivanovska made their name winning the 2015 Skopje Festival. Back in the early winter of January 2018 Eye Cue were internally selected to represent North Macedonia in Lisbon. Later they would reveal their tropical bop ‘Lost and Found’, becoming a firm fan favourite. Unfortunately Europe and Australia audiences didn’t have the same vigour and North Macedonia came 18th in the highly competitive first Semi-Final. Yet, proving that nobody goes home empty handed, Eye Cue did receive the famed Barbara Dex Award.
However the spirit of Eurovision and fan attachment always prospers no matter what result. This year Eye Cue during their stay in London they recorded new songs, ‘Dancin’‘, ‘Love Me Hate Me’ and ‘Too Late’. Many will remember ‘Dancin” getting its first public reveal at Eurofest earlier this year. Also Eye Cue attended many other events including the London Eurovision Party 2019 and flying all the way out to Australia for their preview party season, visiting Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. We can only hope this means an album is in the pipeline soon!
