The blond Irish drag superstar Davina Devine is calling for the Irish broadcaster, RTE, to change how they select the Irish representative for the Eurovision Song Contest.
“I’d be totally up for it”
Davina says that she “would give everything a go” and would love to go to Eurovision for Ireland. In an interview with The Social Media, she says:
We need to do something really different, so maybe it’s time to have a drag queen up there performing.Davina Devine
Of course, drag act Conchita Wurst won Eurovision 5 years ago in Copenhagen for Austria. Could Davina be Ireland’s chance to win the contest for the eighth time?
“Europe is jealous”
Davina believes that the reason Ireland does badly in Eurovision is because Europe is jealous of the fact that Ireland is statistically the most successful country in Eurovision, having won the contest 7 times, more than any other country. She says:
I think Europe is jealous of us because we have won it so many times. I think we have also gloated a lot over the years and now people are sick of us being the champions. Honestly, I don’t ever see Ireland winning again because the way we are going now is a no-go.Davina Devine
This is despite Ryan O’Shaughnessy qualifying in last year’s contest and getting a very respectable 136 points with a song that was very much loved by Eurovision fans, whilst previous Irish entries have not gone down so well and then not qualified at all.
What do you think? Would you like to see Davina Devine at Eurovision? Do you agree that Europe is jealous of Ireland, and that’s why they do badly in the Eurovision Song Contest? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and on social media @ESCXTRA
