Eurovision winner Jay Aston to represent Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party in next UK general election

Today it has been announced that Bucks Fizz star Jay Aston Colquhounis will stand as a parliamentary candidate for the Brexit Party in the next United Kingdom general election. She will aim to become the Member of Parliament for Kensington, a seat currently held by the Labour Party.

“Breaking free” of the European Union

Aston was announced today as one of 635 “approved candidates” who will stand for the Brexit Party for a potential general election. As the party name indicates, the Brexit Party’s main aim is to ensure the United Kingdom exits the European Union as soon as possible. The Brexit Party won the UK European Parliament election earlier this year with 30.5% of all votes.

I want to stand for the Brexit Party and fight to uphold democracy for the sake of the people. As an MP, I will work to rebuild trust and help the Brexit Party make the necessary reforms to unite the country after we break free of the European Union.

Winning the hearts of Europe

Bucks Fizz won the 1981 Eurovision Song Contest for the United Kingdom with the iconic “Making Your Mind Up”. Despite leaving the band in 1985, Jay once again performs with her Bucks Fizz bandmates Cheryl Baker and Mike Nolan under the moniker of “The Fizz”. Their most recent studio album release “Christmas with The Fizz” hit #93 in the UK charts last November.

Aston is also successfully battling mouth cancer which was diagnosed in June 2018. She was back on stage “months” after “a life-saving operation” performed last July according to the BBC.

My first memory of watching the Eurovision Song Contest was back in 2001 and, over the years, my passion and enthusiasm for the contest has very much turned into an obsession. I adore music and I love geography, so this contest is a natural fit for me. If la la loving Eurovision was a crime, I'd certainly be a criminal!
