Stockholm 2016

Breaking news: Romania will not participate in the Eurovision 2016.

In a statement by the EBU, Romania will no longer be able to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 and “will lose their access to the other EBU member services including the Eurovision News and Sports News Exchanges, the right to broadcast specific sporting events, legal, technical and research expertise and lobbying services.”
This is due to TVR not paying previous debts, up to CHF 16 million (€14.53 million). The debt situation goes further back to January 2007.
Romanian fans do not have to panic though as the EBU has already clarified the situation with their accreditations: Romanian press and fans will be able to access the contest, but their accreditations will be moved to the International Delegation and tickets to shows will remain valid.
Ovidiu Anton’s “Moment of Silence” will be kept in the physical CD (as it has been already produced) and will be kept in the digital download and streaming album, as a courtesy from the EBU to the participating artist.
